What options do I have to protect my hardwood floor from my dogs nails scratching them?

With out putting on a sock or shoe like material. I have already tried that.

What options do I have to protect my hardwood floor from my dogs nails scratching them?
Use a polyurethane finish on the hardwood floors and the nails won't scratch it. I just put down hardwood floors last August, and I have two long-nailed terriers who race and slide across the floor on a daily basis. The only scratches we got had nothing to do with the dogs...it was when we were moving a dresser by putting it on a beach blanket and sliding it across the floor. A small pebble found its way under the blanket and left a few scratches. I used that orange-glo hardwood refinisher and you can't tell there was ever a mark.
Reply:you need to talk to an obdience trainer because it sounds like a behavioral problem
Reply:clip ur dogs' nails when they get long so u don't have to spend a lot of money on new floor
Reply:trim and file your dogs nails. then go to doctors foster and smith on-line and they sell some little things that go over a dogs nails - and they come in different colors!!!
Reply:They have little caps that you can put over the dogs nails.

Also keeping the nails shorter will help.
Reply:welll it don't make sense to get a dog when you have hard wood floors in the first place. kinda like pooping before u wipe. don't make sense. Ever heard of putting a rug down or get one of thoses claw caps.
Reply:Keep your dogs nails clipped and you can also check with the Vet . There are tips they can put on cats nails and I think dogs as well they are like a rubber substance that will protect floors an upholstery from animals .
Reply:clip you dogs nail short. They do have covers you can put over nails but some dogs don't like them
Reply:i think your best bet would be to get your dogs nails clipped.if he is mostly indoors that would be a good thing to do!good luck!
Reply:cut their paws off
Reply:If you walk a dog for 20 mins everyday on pavement that'll keep there nails trimmed and blunt to stop scratching the floors.
