i have nubuck boots and i dont have a speacial cleaner for them how can i clean them without damaging them??

How to clean material shoes(timberlands)?
rub corn meal into them and vacuum off or brush.or use a slice of bread . good grief they are timberlands and a work shoe correct. I used to hose mine off and let dry by a radiator.
