there is no weathering on th moon
there is no wind or water to erode the footprints
the footprints on the moon are very deep because of the apollo atrounots shoes
or the apollo astronauts on the moon made shoe deposits with space age materials
Why would footprints made on the moon last 4hundreds of years?
The Answer is that:
There is no wind or water to erode the footprints.
There is however weathering on the moon from micrometeorite impacts (similar to very slow sandblasting) so the footprints will eventually disappear. Hope that helps.
Reply:the reason that there is no footprints on the moon is because there is really no weathering.
Reply:The first two are pretty much the same...and those are the reasons. There's no weather and no possible erosion.
Reply:Looks like you have a multiple choice homework question.
It is B "there is no wind or water to erode the footprints".
Interesting note, the 6 Flags the U.S. planted on the Moon are no longer there, or if they are they are bleached white by now. You know how the sun bleaches out fabrics you leave outside here on Earth? Well it's worse on the Moon, 'cuse theres no atmosphere there and more Solar Radiation gets through. So if they have been left outside in the sun since 1969 (or 1972 for the last flights) they would be pretty bleached out by now.
So since thats a form of weathering (I guess) I'd go with B, there is no air and water to disturb them.
Reply:I hope you don't mind my opinion on this. Did it occur to you that probably it hasn't been struck yet by meteorites or other heavenly bodies? The moon is constantly bombarded by these things in space, are you sure the footprints are still there? Just a thought......
Reply:You answered your own question. #2 no wind is the main reason. Also no athmosphere.
Reply:just as you said, there is no atmosphere and thus no wind or rain to make them go away
Reply:Right, There is no upper atmosphere where there is a lower weather system forces at work..The moon is more surrounded by the vacuum of space.( A planets inner structure design determines its upper atmosphere layers and layer pressures )
Reply:about the only thing that will erode the foot prints will be the heat and cold flux and dust from outter space.
Reply:all the above but mostly no wind
Reply:1 and 2, which are actually the same thing near enough.
